Experience the top of the underwater world in Gordo Banks.
Gordo Banks is an underwater mountain located 5 miles off the coast of San Jose del Cabo, at a distance of 2 hours in our boat (The Abyss) from the bay of Cabo San Lucas. In this peculiar dive site the minimum depth is 110 ft/ 33 m. The bottom is full of gardens of black corals, soft corals, fans, countless invertebrates and different tropical fish.
Because it is a pinnacle so far from the coast, it has the transit of different pelagic and migratory species such as manta rays, hammerhead sharks, dorados, marlins, whales in season, whale sharks, and more! The possibilities of having these encounters are only given by Gordo Banks.
Challenging conditions require divers to be PADI Advanced Open Water and NITROX Certified. For safety requirements, we request a reconnaissance dive prior to departure. If you are not yet Advanced Diver or certified to dive with NITROX, contact us and we will advise you on the different options to obtain your certifications.
Itinerary and Logistics
For this excursion we recommend leaving at dawn (usually 6:00 am – 6:30 am). This requires us to be at Nautilus Dive Tech facilities at least 30 minutes before to be able to check the equipment and sign the paperwork.
We will move to the pier where we will board our boat (The Abyss). The trip to Gordo Banks lasts approximately 2 hours from the port of Cabo San Lucas to our diving spot.
Along the way we can be surprised with some sightings from the surface, such as Dolphins, Manta Rays, Whales in season, and an impressive landscape throughout the tour.
Upon reaching Gordo Banks, it is expected to achieve a descent with a line that goes from the surface to the bottom, where you can begin to see the sea bottom and discover its secrets. Following the instructions of your Dive Master is essential to avoid separation by any marine current.
At the end of our first dive, on the surface we will have our lunch and rest for a few minutes, this period on the surface will last at least 1 hour before the second dive.
At the end of our second dive we will board and return in our boat with an estimated time of 2 hours to the port of Cabo San Lucas.
